So Adam had a choice between heterosexuality and bestiality? So glad the writer cleared that up for us. What if he chose bestiality? Would Jehovah have let it happen, or would he have disfellowshipped Adam on the spot? What if Adam had expressed his desire for a companion with the same 'hardware' as he had? Sounds like Fred Franz was trying to fill up some pages in between the creation and 1975. I almost wish Nathan Knorr had written a few books. Then we'd be able to have in print why wearing jeans wasn't Christian and hear him ramble on about masturbation and homosexuality.

1966 Book : Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God
by binadub insomewhat of a turning point occurred for me in 1966 when life everlasting in freedom of the sons of god book was released at the assemblies that year.
this you may know was the book that calculated 1975 would end 6000 years of humanity on earth possibly leaving the "thousand years" of revelation to complete the 7000-year "creative day.
" jehovah's witnesses jumped on this implication as "new light" with enormous enthusiasm.

Both Godfather movies. But I think Godfather II is more poignant.

We're still waiting for the good 'ol sauna boys to 'come out of the closet' and give us the goods. Not knowing fully the extent as to how involved Franz was in the whole doctrinal aspect at the time, I actually liked the guy. We all cried when we heard he had passed. I'd actually like to hear more about Ted Jaracz. Barbara did the most extensive writing about the man, but he still remains a mystery to most. Karl Klein too. He strikes me as a bumbling dolt.

I've only met the man properly three times, and all of them through my uncle who was the District Convention Overseer. However, there was another time when I ran into him by chance that was amusing.
We were all staying at the Marriott. It was the one place that filled up within minutes, and that year my family was lucky enough to get a room. This was back in the 80's, and an indoor pool and jacuzzi was positively luxurious for us exurban kids. We were being pretty rowdy, and were tossing a football (the US version) to other kids who were jumping into the pool at the same time. Fred Franz walks in wearing a hotel robe and two mismatching socks and slippers. My uncle and a few others were with him. They all sauntered over to the jacuzzi, and all entered except for Franz, who dipped his feet in and sat up on the side. What happened next was that it was my turn to throw the football, and the kid who was supposed to catch it deflected it in the air and it lands right in the jacuzzi. Everyone else was already in the water, but it gave Fred a pretty good splash. He grabbed the ball and placed it on his lap. No one wanted to go get it from him, so as the one who threw it I was forced to. I went up to him and stood behind him, but he purposely ignored me while someone else was speaking. Finally when the others eventually looked up to me, Fred turns around.
"I suppose this belongs to you?"
"Yes, Brother Franz"
With surprising dexterity for a man his age, he throws the ball into the pool.
"Well then, go fetch, doggie!"
Everyone in the tub started bursting with laughter. Franz sat there with a smile on his face.
It was the last time I saw him. I was nine at the time. I still have the football too. It's my own piece of JW history. I feel like one of those creepy Elvis fans who buy dirty plates that Elvis ate off of. But I'm keeping my Fred Franz football.

UK convention dramas recorded by American actors - the GB's yearly gaffe
by cedars ini'm just curious as to whether any of my fellow brits ever pondered how the society can be so stupid as to insist using the us drama tapes at uk conventions rather than having them re-recorded in a british accent?.
as all of us brits know, the convention drama is a subject of subdued derision among uk publishers - and i've been to many a party or social gathering where, at some point, somebody whose had a little too much coke re-enacts a scene from a drama mockingly (typically by gesturing wildly into the air and saying "jer-ho-vah gaaard!!
" in an over-the-top american accent).. what the society clearly doesn't understand is that the dramas really lose their emotional impact with british audiences when performed in an american accent by amateurs.

I hear you there. I used to live in Europe, and had to get used to the British terms. When I asked for my "pants" to be washed, I got my underwear instead. When my girl asked me for a "rubber", I started getting affectionate and took off my "pants" (both in the American and British definitions). Asking for a "biscuit" to dip in my gravy always got me what I knew as a "cookie". Pudding? No thanks. Hey wait, why is everyone having dessert and not me? Walking to the country house at night, I was asked to bring a "torch". I thought it very primitive to take a bundle of sticks and light them on fire on the top. Why not a flashlight? It took me some time to spell my name with "zed" instead of "zee".
Getting back on topic, I do remember some of the American dramas had at times an older brother with a British accent. This was done for what I call the "Obi-Wan Kenobi/Alec Guinness effect". The older and wiser voice of reason. They should at least find some time to re-record them for the local population. I wouldn't be able to stifle a giggle if everyone onstage were speaking in an Al Pacino-style Scarface Cuban accent. "I toll you mang! Jehoba is deh best!"

The Tower of Babel - Languages: Isn't this story unhinged?
by james_woods inbesides the obvious fact that it is historically ridiculous - can anybody make any sense out of this story?.
god was somehow afraid that man was developing too much technology?
just because they were building a tower?.

Eve and the snake fed into the parable about the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Bad. As I recall, Adam and Eve's minds were like children and they were unable to think critically. After eating the "fruit", they lost their innocence and began noticing that they were naked and hid in shame from God.

Human Error
by allyouneedislove inthe proclaimers book (published by the wtbts) contains a very interesting statement:.
on page 709, paragraph 1, it states:.
it should not surprise us that in modern times too, jehovah has often led his people as a progressive organization, gradually enlightening them as to bible truths.

Reminds me of the famous line from HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey:
"Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before and it has always been due to human error."

Everyone has already been conditioned to let the 2014 date pass without any fuss. If anything, they will tell you that it is the 100th anniversary of Jesus Christ's return. Fred Franz himself deflected the 1975 criticism by insisting that all he ever said was that Adam was created 6000 years ago. They saw this coming almost 20 years ago and that's why they decided to change the "generation" doctrine. If the old generation understanding were still in place, it would be a date of more significance.

All Islam really is when you get down to it, is a hijacked (pardon the irony) form of Judaism that borrows all of the Jewish prophets and even takes Jesus along for the ride. It insists that the true blessing of God was passed from Abraham to Ishmael, and not Isaac, thus giving the Arab race more legitimacy. However, they can point to no descendent of Ishmael other than Mohammed who was a prophet. All these Abrahamic religions are really ethnocentric creeds that promote supremacy of one group over another.
